So they removed the stone. Then
Jesus raised His eyes, and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. “I
knew that You always hear Me; but because of the people standing around I said
it, so that they may believe that You sent Me, Jn 11:41–42
This is a prayer of gratitude worthy of imitation for
this Thanksgiving day. Our Lord prayed with gratitude without having seen the
resurrection of his friend Lazarus as if it had already happened. He also
recognized that God always listened to him, which shows a trust in God's power.
But the most
important thing is that the Lord had a heart of gratitude that sought to
glorify his Father and that he would take the credit and the Glory of the great
miracle that was about to happen. Let us remember the moments of uncertainty,
when all we could do was trust our Father who always listens to us.
Let us seek on
this Thanksgiving day that our gratitude is focused on showing the Father to
the "people standing around" us so they may believe in the Lord. But above all,
let us thank God that we can safely say to him, "thank you that you have always heard me."
Amen!
